My name is Emma, and this is a blog of my art! My art focuses on the idea of society's influence on the individual as well as the importance of one expressing one's individuality. "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" -Dr. Seuss

One of a Kind
Recently, I visited a street art exhibit called "Exhibit Be", created by Brandon Odums. He, and many other artists, created street art that almost completely covered an abandoned apartment complex. He had different sections of the apartment buildings designated for different artists to work with. As I walked around the exhibit, it was clearly visible that each artist has their own personal style and message that they wanted to portray. This aspect of the exhibit inspired me the most considering my art is generally based around the importance of individuality. In order to portray my message like Brandon and his fellow street artists, I created this collage. It consists of many different flowers collaged into a human silhouette. My reasoning for this is that, like the artists at the exhibit, no two flowers are exactly the same. Flowers come in all different shapes and sizes, but they are all equally beautiful. I think that this is a concept that also applies to human beings but is commonly overlooked. Society has created a mold that all humans are supposed to conform to, but this is an unattainable task. All humans are different, but all are beautiful. For my collage, the silhouette represents the mold that individuals of society are told to fit, but the flowers represent the true forms of the individuals along with their differences and individual beauties. Brandon Odums' exhibit inspired me to spread my message to the world, and I challenge you to do the same.
