My name is Emma, and this is a blog of my art! My art focuses on the idea of society's influence on the individual as well as the importance of one expressing one's individuality. "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" -Dr. Seuss

"Open Your Eyes, Look Within" -Bob Marley
I'm very interested in eyes because of their radiation of emotion and character. I really do think eyes are sort of the "window to the soul." Because of this, I decided to take pictures of my friends' eyes and put them all together, so these pictures are all lined up and glued to black paper. I was also inspired to do this by the song Pretty Eyes by Alex Goot.
Photography
I took this photo in Paris, France of the Metro sign. I love the light shining on the sign and the somewhat monochromatic background with the bright red sign as a focal point. (Edited with Snapseed)
My dog, Sammie, loves to be up close and personal with people, so this photo captures her perfectly. I love the light and dark values. (Edited with Snapseed)
This is a photo taken of me doing gymnastics in front of the Eiffel Tower. I edited it to add more contrast
and the black and white effect. Photocreds to Emily Anderson. (Edited with Snapseed)
I also took this photo in Paris right when I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time. I thought the trees added to the photo as opposed to solely the building itself. I edited to the photo to add contrast and ambiance. (Edited with Snapseed)
This is a photo of my neighbors dog, Suggie. (Edited with Snapseed)
This is a photo of my dog, Sammie, and me. I edited it to make it black and white with blurred edges to draw the focus towards our faces. Photocreds to Madeline Gordon. (Edited using Snapseed)
Tess
Tess
This is a drawing of my old dog, Tess. She didn't actually look like this, but you get the idea. First, I drew all of the dog with an HB pencil, and then I gradually used darker pencils finishing with a graphite pencil which I used for the eyes. I then used pastels for the background. I wanted this drawing to mainly focus on the principle of emphasis. I did want the background to pop, but the dog is meant to be the focal point.
Above the Influence
This is another collage/acrylic paint multimedia piece. I once again cut out anything colorful from bundles of magazines and collaged them together while still leaving room to paint the fish. With this painting, I wanted to portray a similar message about outside influences; however, this piece focuses on staying true to yourself. I know this topic has been discussed to the point where it has become a cliche, but I could not agree with it more. The collaged bits represent the influence everything around us has on us. Although these influences help us grow, we need to remember who we really are. The fish represent our unchanged original selves. They are not painted on top of the collage because we are always in the mist of these influences, and we need to remember who we are.

Orangina
Orangina
This is a multimedia piece consisting of bits of magazines and acrylic paint. I cut out hundreds of different blue magazine bits from any magazine I could find. After collaging these pieces into a background, I glued two painted koi fish on top of the collage. This piece was intended to have a strong sense of unity while including a focal point, the fish. My influence for this piece is my idea of everything around us shaping the people we are. I have trouble verbalizing this idea, so my work is my best explanation. The purpose of the collaged background is to emphasize that everything around us impacts us in one way or another. Although some impacts can be negative, this piece of art portrays the strength and wisdom we draw from everything. This fish are the bold focal point because they are us; they represent the beautiful human beings we become with the help of everything and everyone.

All About Me(:
Hi!(:I am a 15 year old sophomore at Country Day, and this is a blog of my art. I believe that everything said or done around us effects the people we become. However, I believe that people need to focus on their individuality and stick to their personalities that have not been affected by other peoples' views or opinions. These ideas tend to be the focus of my artwork. I love collage and multimedia because all the components of the artwork come from different places, but it all comes together to make one unified piece. I believe that this is how people are as well. I hope you enjoy!
